Installation Instructions
This page details the default installation process for iChemLabs desktop applications on Windows, macOS and Linux. While ChemDoodle 2D v12 is used in these examples and screenshots, these instructions are applicable to any of our latest desktop application installers.
Windows
On the Download page, download the latest Windows version of the application you wish to install. The EXE (Windows Executable) installer will be downloaded to your computer, usually in your Downloads folder. Navigate to the downloaded EXE installer file in File Explorer and double click on the file. The installer window will appear:
Follow the instructions, setting your preferred options, to complete the installation. Once complete, the installer will ask if you want to open the software. You will define where the application is installed, typically in the C:\Program Files\ChemDoodle folder. If a previous version of the application is installed at that location, the installer will not continue. First uninstall the previous version (it is safe to manually delete the entire ChemDoodle folder).
Note, administrators may install the application for end users, but should NOT activate the software. Once you get to the activation screen, close the application and reopen it WITHOUT administrator priviledges to ensure the end user account is properly activated.
Once installed, you may run the application by double clicking on the C:\Program Files\ChemDoodle\ChemDoodle.exe application file.

macOS
On the Download page, download the latest macOS version of the application you wish to install. The DMG (Apple Disk Image File) will be downloaded to your computer, usually in your Downloads folder. Navigate to the downloaded DMG file in Finder and double click on the file. The installer window will appear:
As instructed in the window, drag the entire ChemDoodle application folder to your /Applications folder. You may then navigate to the /Applications/ChemDoodle folder and double click on the ChemDoodle icon to start the application.

Linux
On the Download page, download the latest Linux version of the application you wish to install. The BIN (Linux Installation Binary) will be downloaded to your computer, usually in your Downloads folder. Navigate to the downloaded BIN file in Terminal:
Now run the following command:
The installer will run and you will see the following message:
If the installation doesn't automatically progress, press the return key to proceed.
The ChemDoodle application folder will then be installed in the same folder as the installer BIN file. In this folder, you will find the ChemDoodle application executable file. You may double click on this file to start the software.
